The word cabriole, apparently, is a French dancing term for bounding or leaping.
If you are Italian you would know the derivation is from the word capriola, which means ‘goat’s leap’.
But quite what a curvaceous leg with a pronounced knee on a piece of furniture, and occasionally, a claw-like foot clutching a ball, has got to do with prancing about in a leotard, or bounding across the Italian countryside, completely escapes me!
